Philmont Contingent

The highlight of any Scout’s experience in Scouting would have to be a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Philmont Scout Ranch provides an unforgettable adventure along its hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails. Program features combine the best of the Old West—horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuck wagon dinners, and interpretive history—with exciting challenges for today—rock climbing, burro racing, mountain biking, and rifle shooting—in an unbeatable recipe for fast-moving outdoor fun.

Philmont is BSA’s High Adventure backpacking base in the Sangre de Christo range of the southern Rocky Mountains. Participants will backpack more than 50 miles in the back country of New Mexico, participate in unique programs and have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our contingent is limited to 40 youth and 8 adult leaders so apply early.

In order to be eligible for a Philmont Trek, Scouts attending must be age 14 by January 1, 2010, or have completed the eighth grade or higher in the 2009/2010 school year. Adults (male and female) 18 to 20 years old are considered youth participants.
